Privacy Policy — GEOSNAP

Effective date: 2025-11-01

Short summary

GEOSNAP enables users to capture photos that include a visible Google Maps location (latitude/longitude or place name) and a timestamp overlay. This policy explains what information we collect (photo, geolocation, timestamp), why we collect it, how we store and share it, and what control you have over your information.

1. What information we collect

When you use the photo-capture feature, we may collect the following:

  • Photos: images captured by your device's camera. Photos may include visual content and the overlayed timestamp and location when the app creates them.
  • Geolocation data: GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude), place names, or Google Maps-derived location data used to generate the overlay on the photo.
  • Timestamps: date and time when the photo was captured (used for the visible overlay and for metadata).
  • Device identifiers: non-personal device data (app version, OS version) for debugging and analytics if you enable it.
  • Optional user-provided data: any notes or captions you attach to a photo within the app.

Note: We only collect geolocation when you explicitly permit the app to access location services. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.

2. How we use collected data

  • To generate an on-image overlay (Google Maps location + timestamp) per your request.
  • To store photos on your device and (with your explicit consent) optionally upload to our servers for backup, reporting, or sharing.
  • To help troubleshoot issues, improve app features, and analyze usage trends (only if analytics are enabled).
  • To comply with legal obligations or protect rights (limited cases).

3. With whom we share data

We do not sell personal data. We only share information in the following situations:

  • With your consent: if you choose to upload or share a photo, we will transmit the image to the selected service (e.g., server backup, email, or social sharing).
  • Service providers: trusted third-party service providers that perform functions for the app (e.g., cloud storage, analytics, crash reporting). They are contractually required to protect your data.
  • Legal requests: if required by law or to respond to lawful requests by public authorities.

4. Storage, retention & local device storage

Local device: Photos created with the app are saved to your device (gallery or app-specific storage) unless you choose otherwise. Geolocation and timestamp overlays are embedded visually in the image and may also be stored as metadata (Exif) depending on settings.

Server storage (optional): If you enable cloud/backup or explicitly upload images, we will store them on our servers (or partner cloud storage). We retain uploaded images for as long as you keep your account or until you request deletion, subject to legal obligations.

You can request deletion of uploaded data — see Your rights.

5. Permissions required

To provide the image + location overlay feature, the app requires:

  • Camera permission — to capture photos.
  • Location permission — to capture GPS coordinates used for the map overlay. You may grant location access only while app is in use.
  • Storage permission (if applicable) — to save images to device storage.

You can revoke any permission in your device settings; revoking location permission will prevent location overlays from being added automatically.

6. Third-party services (Google Maps)

The app uses Google Maps / Google Maps Platform to display and optionally resolve human-friendly addresses. Google may collect data as described in their policies. By using this feature you agree to Google’s terms and privacy policy:
https://policies.google.com/privacy

If you do not want Google services to be used, disable the map overlay option in the app settings (if available) or refrain from granting location permission.

7. Security

We implement reasonable security measures (encryption in transit via HTTPS, access controls) to protect data transmitted to our servers. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure — avoid sharing highly sensitive data unless necessary.

8. Your rights & choices

  • Access: Request a copy of personal data we hold about you (uploaded images & account info).
  • Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your uploaded data or account; local device copies will remain unless you delete them on your device.
  • Consent withdrawal: You can withdraw consent for uploads or analytics; this does not affect data processed prior to withdrawal.
  • Opt-out: Turn off location or camera permission in device settings to stop overlay creation.

To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.

9. Children

Our app is not directed to children under 16 (or the age required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age. If you believe we have collected such data, contact us to request deletion.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy in the app and update the "Effective date" at the top. Significant changes will be communicated via the app.
